In 1979, the Jacksons moved up in the Top 10 with the album Destiny, released by Epic, and the hit "Shake Your Body". Michael began recording Off the Wall this year. And again, lots of unreleased Motown Jackson 5 Boogie on this album on his label "Natural Resources".

The novel is not tubes but the good songs come out of Motown records. Five of the seven songs are unpublished productions Hal Davis, some are in the line of "Pride and Joy" in on "Joyful Jukebox Music" as "I Was Made To Love Her" and "Love's Gone Bad". The sweetness of "One Day I'll Marry You," following the sessions for "Never Can Say Goodbye" might have its place in albums like Maybe Tomorrow and Got To Be There.

"Oh, I've Been Blessed" is produced by Bobby Taylor, recorded in the early beginnings of Motown group. "Penny Arcade" is the vein of "Lookin' Through to the Windows".

The album Boogie has been distributed for a very short period, and the album remains the rarest of the Jackson 5. It has also been available for some time on the internet, CD format, edited by the site- Hip-o Select.

Review

by Lindsay Planer (All Music)

In a bid to cash in on the post-Motown successes of Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael -- known by the late 1970s simply as the Jacksons -- the ten-song odds and ends collection Boogie (1979) actually turned out to be a rarity due to its brief shelf-life. The contents consist primarily of previously unissued tracks, although there are also remixes of the early Jackson Five smashes "ABC," "Never Can Say Goodbye" and "Dancing Machine" that while at once compelling are ultimately non-essential to all but the most fanatical enthusiast. The remainder of material encompasses their six-year ('69-'75) run on Motown, chronologically commencing with "Oh, I've Been Blessed," a Bobby Taylor-penned side hailing from the very first sessions the quintet cut for Motown in 1968. [Note: While it initially surfaced on Boogie, this is the same rendering that turned up as an extra on the Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5/ABC [Bonus Tracks] (2001) two-fer CD]. Scholarly Motown listeners should note that in addition to the Jacksons' inspired run-through, both Taylor himself, as well as the Four Tops released their own respective readings. Other 'borrowed' tunes include the Holland-Dozier-Holland composition "Love's Gone Bad." While Chris Clark's version of the same showed up on a 1966 single that almost made it (number 41) into the Top 40 R&B survey, lovers of proto-punks the Nomads will remember their update which is immortalized on the Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 box set. Another highlight is the engaging overhaul of Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made to Love Her" with Michael Jackson displaying signs of his remarkably precocious talents. Boogie finally made it on to CD thanks to Hip-O Select, who coupled it with an earlier batch of leftovers titled Joyful Jukebox Music (1976). That compilation was also complemented with the nearly 15-minute unedited "Hum Along and Dance" -- a song that appeared in a comparatively truncated form on Get It Together (1973). Interested parties should make haste, as Joyful Jukebox Music/Boogie (2004) is limited to 5000 non-numbered copies.
