Students receive a survey of linguistic topics and apply the analytical skills to language in advertising (broadly construed). They perform mini research projects that are scaffolded replications of a study they read about in the class. They will be able to use classroom articles as resources for the Wikipedia assignment and as a jumping off point for searching for additional articles to use in their bibliography. The course also considers visual components of advertising and how those support the linguistic message, so the create images and multimedia assignment is highly relevant. Finally, we consider how language in advertising perpetuates particular social stereotypes, so the extent to which the project aims to consider how social meaning and knowledge is constructed, the class seems to fit well with the larger student outcomes. Also, this course satisfies a general education requirement which expects students to have opportunities to develop digital literacy, so I envision this project as being a clear means of giving that experience to students.

This week you don't have any online trainings due. Instead, on Tuesday, we will do an in-class assignment to practice what you have learned so far. If you are present for the assignment and contribute during the session, you will receive a grade of "complete." If you are absent or do not contribute to the in-class assignment, you will receive a grade of "incomplete." Review the syllabus for how complete/incomplete grades contribute to your overall grade in the class.
No Wikipedia Assignments due this week.

Everyone has begun writing their article drafts.
You probably have some feedback from other students and possibly other Wikipedians. Consider their suggestions, decide whether it makes your work more accurate and complete, and edit your draft to make those changes.
Resources:
Every student has finished reviewing their assigned articles, making sure that every article has been reviewed.
Now that you've improved your draft based on others' feedback, it's time to move your work live - to the "mainspace."

Now's the time to revisit your text and refine your work. You may do more research and find missing information; rewrite the lead section to represent all major points; reorganize the text to communicate the information better; or add images and other media.
This week you don't have any online trainings due. Instead, we will use class time on Tuesday, to address any outstanding issues you may have with your assignments. If you are present and prepared to work, you will receive a grade of "complete." If you are absent or do not come prepared, you will receive a grade of "incomplete." Review the syllabus for how complete/incomplete grades contribute to your overall grade in the class.
Continue to expand and improve your work, and format your contributions to match Wikipedia's tone and standards. Remember to contact your Wikipedia Expert at any time if you need further help!
It's the final week to develop your article.
You should have contributed 1 citation and 1 visual to a wikipedia page by this due date.
Reminders:
Everyone should have finished all of the work they'll do on Wikipedia, and be ready for grading.
