User:Catholic Laitinen/Mispronunciations and Spelling Errors[edit]

Blatant WP:UPNOT: "you should avoid substantial content on your user page that is unrelated to Wikipedia". Very nasty sarcastic tone, clearly only posted to stir the shit and aggravate people. Some of this can be read as WP:NPA, such as "If you dislike condescending, critical, and opinionated intelligentsia, and/or are currently lacking a sense of humor, please do not continue reading this page, as you'll likely be offended." and "You're not as smart as I am!" I like it. I think it is an excellent introduction important to resolving concerns you may have in dealing with this user. Clearly, not TPH's cup of tea, and I am very sure not many peoples cup of tea. I think I would enjoy User:Catholic Laitinen's company on occasion, but always with an escape route and I would prefer not to let him into my home. Yeah, no. I read it as rough humour more than genuine attack, but your reading of it is important. I'll reconsider. Is there any associated history? How did you come across it? It doesn't appear to have any incoming links of significance. Does the page reflect the user's actual behaviour that you are trying to address by proxy? At this point, I think it is written in a deliberate offensive style, but that it is not actually intending to insult. I can be an annoying and bitter individual, and I am sure many of my family members and friends feel the same way about my company as you do, but they all respect me for my knowledge, wisdom, and skills in this life. @TenPoundHammer: My page is not meant to offend anyone; it is written in a humorous, yet truthful light, and I certainly did not write it to target or attack any specific user or group of users. I see no reason for the page to be deleted, as many users have substantial content that has little or nothing at all to do with Wikipedia in their userspace. Some could argue that userboxes (for the most part) are just as useless as the information on my page. Personally, I know that the page in question AND my userboxes are useless, but they grant complete strangers insight into my personality and life. If more users revealed themselves as much as I have, I believe there would be far less misunderstandings and arguments between members of the Wikipedian community. In summary, and I'm sure this comes as no surprise, I concur with SmokeyJoe. The page should be kept/tolerated. Thank you for your concern; I have no doubts that they are in good faith. @SmokeyJoe:: I found the page by checking backlinks to bro-country in an attempt to keep it out of infoboxes. @Lord Laitinen: I still think that the page's tone could very easily be mistaken for an attack, especially when you're saying people "aren't as smart as I am" or are "ignorant" and "foolish", or saying that someone is "dumb" just because they can't spell. I know plenty of people who are otherwise very smart but struggle with spelling, whether it be a learning disability like dyslexia or just a natural weak spot of theirs. Are they all of a sudden "dumb" just because they're weak in spelling but strong in everything else? Also, I happen to like Sam Hunt and Eminem; does that make me "dumb" just because my musical tastes aren't in line with yours? @TenPoundHammer: If you would read the page, you would see that I do not call those who like the "musicians to avoid" dumb; I happen to dislike those musicians' work and I "warn" like-minded people not to listen to them. Then I think I'll put a disclaimer in my own userpage saying everyone who doesn't like Weird Al is a humorless monster who can't tie their own shoes without help, and that anyone who doesn't like Domino's pizza should get shot in the head. @TenPoundHammer: In doing so, you would not be violating WP:NPA, so I would not have a problem with it. I enjoy Yankovic's music, dislike Domino's pizza, and wear loafers most days, yet I am not offended because I have a sense of humor and am open to others' opinions. Your paraphrasing of my comments is not accurate, nor does it seem to be in good faith. Hating errors in grammar/spelling doesn't mean that I hate or even slightly dislike those who make the mistakes. You have blown this situation out of proportion, and I ask that you end this ridiculous smear campaign. Two users (excluding myself) have already told you there is not an NPA violation on the page. I cannot imagine this ending in a way you would want. God bless you, and in the future, lighten up. Just a comment that I don't think there is any WP:NPA violation here. *Personal* attacks are directed at specific people: "You're a stupid idiot!" This is distinct from non-personal attacks: "The world is full of stupid idiots!" Only the first type is disallowed by NPA. A little tolerance please. Our freedoms are under enough attack as it is. The page is written somewhat eccentrically, presenting as having been written by some grumpy fellow trying to appear a bit special. It's hard to say whether it is really an attempt at humour, but it's harmless enough if we can get past TenPoundHammer's upset at having the merit of musicians he likes dismissed.
