MediaWiki Conference Community Night - Wednesday, May 25, 2016
Media opportunity At the Wednesday 13 April WikiWednesday a videographer will be present to record 1-3 minute videos of Wikipedians saying anything about Wikipedia. Videos will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and YouTube. With the time we have, anyone may present a video. Rehearse your talk before you come. You may share an experience, give a lesson, make a presentation, or say what you like. The audience might be anyone searching for videos of Wikipedians talking about Wikipedia. This will be an amateur effort.
Proposal: Some people participate in programs that direct them to volunteer a certain number of hours. Such programs include student groups and government-managed community service programs. If such people report editing Wikipedia as community service, under what circumstances, if any, should Wikimedia NYC review and sign-off on their volunteer hours? People in such programs typically need for a registered nonprofit to confirm that they spent time volunteering, and that their actions advanced a nonprofit mission.
Proposal: Require that WM NYC events have an event page procedure for categorizing events: event documentation
Discussion: What kind of safety and safe space system should WM NYC have? See the new WMF team at Support and Safety
