Thanks for updating journal impact factors. Note, however, that the IF published this year are the 2013 IF, so the "impact-year" in the infobox should be "2013". Also, many journal articles repeat the IF in the body of the text, with a reference, and both should be updated to be concordant with the infobox. Hi Randykitty,

Journal IFs have now changed this year and now represent the year they are published. So 2014 journal impact factor refers to cites in 2011 and 2012 to journals in 2013.

• Yes, the IF published in 2014 are about the 2013 citation rates, so these are the 2013 impact factors, NOT the 2014 impact factors which will be published next year. Please check the JCR and you'll see. --Randykitty (talk) 10:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I work for SAGE and this is what we are advising all of our board members.

• This year there has been a change in naming conventions, bringing the Impact Factor year forward to the year the data is released. What was once 2013 Impact Factor is now 2014 Impact Factor. Please note that the calculations remain the same.

This is a direct quote from the communication that we received from TR in advance of the release. The JCR still refers to the 2013 IF, but officially it is known as the 2014 Impact Factor.

"Next month, we're releasing our newest InCitesTM with key updates to Essential Science IndicatorsSM and the launch of Journal Citation Reports ® on InCites, including updated metrics, new capabilities and the latest Journal Impact Factors.

The new InCites will include significant user interface enhancements and additional content. This release will provide more clarity to the complex research management process, making it easier to understand research performance and impact on a global scale.

The new Journal Citation Reports on the InCites integrated platform will bring you: • Dynamic visualizations to see citation relationships • Journal lists and reports you can download and save • The ability to compare journals directly in product • A view of Open Access status of a journal • Quartile, rank and trends for each subject area"

• Megan, you go into the JCR and look at the IF trend for any journal. The last IF listed i the one for 2013. It's the 2013 citations to articles published in the 2 preceding years, so calling it the "2014 IF" is absolutely misleading. And where in that communication that you cite do they say that the 2013 IFs are now called the 2014 IFs? • PLEASE STOP, this is becoming disruptive. I've just spent a couple of hours cleaning up Sage journal articles (adding to many other occasions where I have done that). You may be paid for this by them, but I am not. Removing IF information (which, I note, is still indicated on the Sage website itself as "2013 IF") is approaching vandalism. Note that on the "notices" link that you gave, TR nowhere refer to the 2013 IF as "2014 IF". On the anp site that you also mentioned, Sage clearly writes: "2013 Journal Citation Reports® (Thomson Reuters, 2014)". There is no mention of a "2014 IF".
