Captmondo

A late-50's-ish guy living in London, Ontario, in Southern Ontario.

I work as a Senior Manager for Technical Documentation at a certain semiconductor firm, and have long been an expert in the Darwin Information Typing Architecture. I am also a published author of four computer-oriented titles (a couple of books on HTML and then another two on CSS). More recently I have contributed a chapter on the development and spread of DITA to an academic book on technical writing. I have also been a long-time lecturer on Information Architecture at the University of Toronto's School for Continuing Studies. I hold degrees in English and a Masters of Public Administration, all from Queen's University, Kingston. Other than a brief stint with the Federal government in the early 90s, I have worked primarily in the technology sector. I also worked on one of the earliest Canadian commercial Web sites in the early 90s (Delrina).

I have been a contributor to articles relating to the subject of Ancient Egypt, which has long been a hobby of mine. I am also interested in Canadian numismatics, which is woefully under-represented here on Wikipedia, and something I plan to work on. I also have interests in Astronomy, History, specifically Canadian, Torontonian, Roman, British and British Commonwealth, as well as the history of language and science.

Of late I have decided to turn my attention to Canadian numismatics and pre-Confederation tokens, an area that only had a few stub articles on the subject before I started making additions.

I am also an avid photographer and like making additions to Wikimedia Commons. My current cameras of choice are a Olympus PEN E-PL5 and my trusty Olympus E-620 DSLRs. Whenever I go on business trips, if there is something I can take a few pics of in order to help illustrate an article for Wikipedia, I'll bring my camera along and deliberately take a few photos in order to help out. A gallery of the images I have shot and uploaded can be found here: [1]. Chances are that if I am not making contributions here in the English Wikipedia, I am working on something in Wikimedia Commons.

The Irrelevant Show and Ancient Egypt

Thank you for quality articles, first on Canadian radio comedy such as The Irrelevant Show, then Ancient Egypt, Ahmose I and the Rosetta Stone, for uploading images and for saying "This user enjoys writing.", - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar

For your amazing work on the article Ahmose I, which passed both GA and FA without a single oppose, I award you the Tireless Contributor barnstar. Wear it with pride, for you most certainly deserved it! — Editor at Large(speak) 14:02, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

The Million Award
For your quality improvement work helping to bring Ancient Egypt to WP:FA, I hereby award you The Million Award. Congratulations on this rare accomplishment, and thanks for all you did for Wikipedia's readers! Fitzcarmalan (talk) 19:52, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Canadian Numismatics bibliography

Web-only references

Ancient Egyptian bibliography

These are the source materials I have readily at hand from my personal library. Since I often reference this material in the articles, it makes some sense to have it all in one place. It also means I don't have to re-type my references to the full each and every time. ;-)

As for the username: I created a fictional superhero by that name for a bunch of radio comedy spots I did for CFRC back in the late 1980s, and adopted it for personal use since that time. ;-)
