Tobias James Smith (born 23 December 2003), known online as Tubbo, is an English Twitch streamer and YouTuber who is primarily known for creating Minecraft content. He is also known for his time in the Dream SMP, an invite-only survival multiplayer (SMP) Minecraft server. As of May 2024, he had 5.2 million followers on Twitch, making him the 43rd most followed streamer on the platform.[3][4]
Smith created his Twitch account "Tubbo" in 2018. He predominantly streams Minecraft and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive content.[5]
He created his YouTube account in 2018, and mostly uploaded Minecraft content.[6]
Smith joined the Dream SMP, an invite-only survival multiplayer (SMP) Minecraft server in 2020.[7][8] He rose quickly in the streaming space after joining the server and becoming one of its key characters.[7] He is mostly known for being the friend of TommyInnit, a fellow Twitch streamer on the server, where they roleplayed alongside Dream, also a fellow Twitch streamer and owner of the server, and his friends.[9][10]
In February 2021, Smith participated in PogChamps 3, an online amateur content creator chess tournament hosted by Chess.com, making it to the semifinals of the consolation bracket after losing to fellow Twitch streamer Neekolul.[11][12]
In October 2021, Smith appeared in the infamous Twitch leaks, which disclosed the top Twitch streamers' revenue from August 2019 to October 2021. Smith placed 81st on the list, with a reported payout of $1,000,504.31 for this time period.[13] Smith was the 4th fastest-growing streamer in 2021, according to Unikrn, with Smith reporting having gained 1,500,000 followers on Twitch.[14] According to Vulture, Smith was one of the top streamers for Five Nights at Freddy’s in 2021, where he generated about 273,000 hours of collective views for the game.[15]
In February 2022, Smith joined Misfits Gaming, an e-sports gaming organization based in Boca Raton, Florida, United States. He is signed as one of the Minecraft creators.[16][17][18] Later, on 27 December 2023, Smith announced on Twitter that he would be no longer on Misfits Gaming starting in 2024.[19]
On 1 March 2023, Smith began a subathon called the Tubbathon 2, where he would be streaming continuously until the timer, which a viewer could add to by donating or subscribing, ran out.[20] A year later on 1 March 2024, Smith began Tubbathon 3. Compared to last year's Tubbathon, this year it includes cooking shows, Dungeons & Dragons sessions, panel shows and games.[1] The event ended after 64 days, beating last year's record of 27 days.[1][21]
On 25 November 2022, Smith launched TubNet, a Minecraft server where players would be able to partake in various activities on the server, including aspects like competition mini-games or changing cosmetics, with Misfits Gaming as one of the company's investors. The server was supposed to open in August, but the team at TubNet postponed the launch until November to improve its data security protections.[22] On 8 January 2024, TubNet announced on Twitter that the server would be on hiatus from 12 January 2024.[23]
On 27 August 2021, Smith released a song called "Life by the Sea" featuring CG5.[7][24]
In September 2021, Smith participated in a charity fundraising event held by fellow streamer and YouTuber Technoblade. Smith appeared as one of the "hunters" chasing Technoblade inside the Minecraft game. They managed to raise more than $324,000 for the Sarcoma Foundation of America.[25]
In June 2022, Smith participated in a Minecraft charity tournament held by the MC Championship called MCC Pride with several other online creators. The event managed to raise over $145,000 for The Trevor Project.[26][27]
Tobias James Smith[28] was born on 23 December 2003[29] in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, where he lived before moving to Brighton.[1]
