In the introduction to one of these books, a representative of the Protoculture was confronted with a Zentradi interrogation subject who had just chosen to commit suicide . The interrogator was undaunted, and smoothly shifted his focus to using genetics and other forensic technology, confident that he would be able to get extensive data from the body and possibly even ressuscitate the subject's brain. An implication is made here that the Protoculture was completely familiar with such techniques -- using them them not only for intelligence gathering, but also as part of an immense scientific study which focused on ressuscitating and studying dead alien creatures.
In the three Japanese novels for the first Macross series (and one side story novel), the one volume for the Do You Remember Love? movie, five for Macross II, one for Macross Plus, and two for Macross Dynamite 7, there isn't a scene where a Protoculture interrogator tries to extract information from a Zentradi who commited suicide. In the Macross universe, Protoculture was nearly annihilated by the Zentradi almost 500,000 years ago, long before the setting of most of the stories told in Macross.
