Dr. Prof Qamar-Uz-Zaman Chaudhry is a Pakistani meteorologist and research scientist in the field of nuclear meteorology. He is the current Chairman of Pakistan Meteorological Department and Vice President of World Meteorological Organisation[1]. He is the research scientist in the field of nuclear meteorology and weather technology. Chaudhry is one of the well-known scientist in Pakistan who has produced numerous articles in the field of nuclear meteorology and palatnoc earth quakes. He has published more than 50 research paper in the field of nuclear meteorology and earthquake sciences.
Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Chaudhry recieved his early education from Lahore. Later, he attended Government College University where he recieved his B.Sc with honors and M.Sc. in Physics from there. He attended Quaid-e-Azam University where he recieved his Ph.D in nuclear meteorology. After his Ph.d, Chaudhry joined Pakistan Meteorological Department as a research scientist. After serving a 38 years of the Pakistan Meterological Department, he became a director general of the agency in 1996. He is one of the prominent scientist in Pakistan. His contribution were involoved in 2005 Kashmir earthquake, an disasterous earthquake in Pakistan which resulted in hundreds of deaths in Pakistan. He sat up a Seismology research office in Kashmir as well as other parts of the country. In 1993, he was awarded SAARC Best Young Scientist Research Award for his contribution to meteorological sciences in Pakistan as well as in South Asia.
As a noted international research scientist, Chaudhry has produced numerous articles that are published in known national and internation science journals. His articles heavily focused in the field of nuclear meteorology, Extreme weather forcast, hydrological and high impact weather systems technology, agricultural meteorology, global warming, climatic changes and natural disaster.
In 1999, he was awarded the high civilian award Pride of Performance from the President of Pakistan, Justice (r) Muhammad Rafiq Tarar. In 2001, he was awarded an Internation award American Biographical Institute (ABI). The ABI also included his name in the "Five thousand Personalities in the World" for his outstanding contribution to science in South Asia.
