"Perfect" is a song by American rapper Logic. It was sent to rhythmic contemporary radio on August 11, 2020, as the lead single from his sixth studio album, No Pressure. It was the final single he released before a temporary retirement to focus on being a father to his son, "Little Bobby". Logic wrote the song alongside its producers, 6ix, FnZ production duo members Finatik and Zac, and Keanu Beats. The song features uncredited vocals by fellow American rapper Juicy J and additional vocals by Anna Elyse, containing elements of the video game Street Fighter II: The World Warrior.[1]

Background

In a Twitch listening party of No Pressure, Logic commentated on "Perfect", stating: "I turn up, I swag, I flex, I stunt, all for the last few bars, to bring fuckin' a message to what the fuck is goin' on in this world. I had this whole fuckin' shit, dawg, 'Perfect'. I flag, uh, I flex, I swag, I do all this other shit to bring a message in literally the last fuckin' bar. Shoutout to Juicy J".[2] The song contains "kick-snare patterns" in the drumline.[3] Logic stated that American rapper Lil Wayne was supposed to be featured on the remix of "Perfect" through a tweet on September 17, 2020. However, he stated that Def Jam Recordings would not pay for the remix, so it would not be released.[4] However, the remix, with an additional feature from American rapper ASAP Ferg, leaked in full through a group buy on November 12, 2020.

Critical reception

A.D. Amorosi of Variety described "Perfect" as "plinking" and said that it is not "Logic at his finest, raging with righteous indignation and heightened melodic skills".[5] Tim Hoffman of RIFF Magazine compared Logic's flow on the song to Kendrick Lamar's flow that Lamar used on his 2017 multi-platinum single, "Humble".[6] Writing for DJBooth, Yoh Phillips described the song as a "fun" track of "something with a more contemporary bounce", praising his shoutout to Nujabes and also compared the second verse of a Lamar flow and contrasted the song to a Mac Miller song, specifically his third studio album, GO:OD AM (2015).[7] Writing for Soul In Stereo, Edward Bowser praised the production and instrumentals of the album, citing "Perfect" as "a fun, breezy standout" that shows that "Logic has no problem adapting to more mainstream production".[8] Luke Modugno of StereoVision described the song as one of the "hype tracks" from No Pressure.[9]
