Plot
Ruchita, an idealistic woman, lives with her family in Uttar Pradesh and works at a company called Goyal Jewellers in Jaipur which is owned by a famous businessman, Naresh Goyal, who is also Shreedhar's, Ruchita's father, friend. Nihar, the youngest son of Naresh, is in love with Amrita, Ritu's adoptive sister. Naresh fixes Nihar and Ruchita's marriage, but Nihar tries to run away with Amrita on the wedding day. However, Amrita leaves for London to continue her education, so Nihar reluctantly marries Ruchita. Nihar starts to hate Ruchita and blames her for this situation.
Nihar's mother, Poonam, and his grandmother don't like Ruchita due to her dark skin and they try to expel her from Nihar's life. After many struggles, Nihar starts to like Ruchita and accepts her as his wife. But, Poonam and Daadi plot against Ruchita. Amrita returns to India after learning of Ruchita and Nihar's marriage and decides to separate them. Amrita is assisted by Poonam and Daadi, who prefer her over Ruchita. Nonetheless, the trio fail to separate Ruchita and Nihar. At wit's end, Amrita falsely blames Ruchita for pushing Daadi into an accident but she survives the incident. But the entire family except Nihar blames and expels her. Ruchita learns the truth about Amrita and tries to reveal it, but Amrita poisons her. Ruchita falls unconscious and gets kidnapped, while the entire family believes that she is dead.
Ruchita returns to expose Amrita by scaring her as a ghost. Amrita confesses the entire truth, but she fakes her pregnancy, causing Nihar to announce his marriage to Amrita. Ruchita learns about this and she stops Nihar from marrying Amrita by exposing her crimes to everyone. Ritu disowns Amrita after learning about her truth and Amrita is kicked out of their lives.
Amrita seeks vengeance against Ruchita and Nihar and creates many problems. Amrita fakes her own death and Ritu, believing that Amrita is dead, blames Nihar for her death and gets him arrested. Ritu's adoptive mother, Meera, manipulates her against the Goenka family and encourages her to let Nihar rot in jail. Ruchita investigates this and gathers evidence and learns that Amrita is still alive and exposes Amrita and Meera. Amrita and Meera get arrested, while Nihar is bailed out.
Preeti, who is Naresh and Poonam's long-lost daughter, seeks revenge on the family and creates problems between them as Daadi hides her secret. Ruchita learns of Daadi's secret and exposes Preeti's truth to everyone as they did not know that Preeti came to inherit their wealth. Due to Preeti, Prateek and Nihar get into a fight which causes their house to be divided. Ruchita discovers Preeti's intentions and exposes Preeti to the family and Preeti is arrested.
Poonam, who still hates Ruchita, decides to oust her from Nihar's life. Poonam paralyzes Naresh with an electric shock and blames it on Ruchita. But Nihar discovers Ruchita is innocent, but Poonam emotionally blackmails Nihar, so he has no other choice but to divorce Ruchita. So Poonam's plan to oust Ruchita finally succeeds.
6 Months later
Ruchita now lives with her family and works at a renowned company, meanwhile Nihar is living with his family and is married to a women named Aanchal. However, the marriage turns out to be fake. Nihar had caused Anchal's family to suffer in an accident, so he takes care of Anchal out of guilt. Ruchita and Nihar meet each other again and she is heartbroken to learn of his marriage with Aanchal. Poonam still hates Ruchita and does not want her back in Nihar's life. Aanchal becomes obsessed with Nihar and plans to separate Ruchita and Nihar with the help of Poonam.
Aanchal creates many problems, but Ruchita and Nihar are reunited. Naresh also recovers from paralysis. Aanchal decides to fake her pregnancy with her aunt's, Tai Maa, help. Nihar decides to marry Anchal, but Ruchita exposes her and Poonam's truth is also exposed. Aanchal and Tai Maa kidnap Poonam and Anchal demands Nihar to marry her. Ruchita saves Nihar and Poonam from Aanchal's clutches. Aanchal and Tai Maa are arrested.
Poonam lets Ruchita drown in a river to remove Ruchita from Nihar's life. Some hermits save Ruchita and she returns disguised as Ritika Ahuja, an NRI. Ruchita had saved the real Ritika from a fire, so Ritika agrees to let Ruchita take her identity. Ruchita comes to the Goyal house for a business proposal. Poonam decides to get Nihar married to Ritika. Ruchita, as Ritika, makes Poonam realize that despite Rikita being prettier, Ruchita was the better daughter-in-law and her heart was pure. Finally, Ruchita reveals her identity to everyone. Ruchita realises that she is pregnant with Nihar's child and decides to tell the family. Disha, Prateek's former lover, comes with her son and threatens Prateek to accept her kid, as she is dying from a heart problem. Nihar learns the truth and Prateek tells him to hide the secret as he does not want to ruin his relationship with Ritu. Nihar makes the family believe the child is his. Nihar tries to confess the truth to Ruchita, but Ritu learns Pinku's truth. To save her relationship, she writes a letter to Ruchita under Nihar's name, telling her to leave. Ruchita, believing that Nihar wants her gone, leaves the house without telling anyone about her pregnancy.
5 years later
Ruchita is now successful and raises her and Nihar's daughters, Ruhi and Juhi. On the other hand, Nihar raises Prateek and Disha's son, Pinku. It is also revealed that Disha's heart problems are healed. Poonam wants Disha and Nihar to marry, for Pinku's sake, but Nihar has not moved on from Ruchita. Both Ruchita and Nihar miss each other. Nihar meets Ruhi and Juhi, unaware that they are his daughters. Ruchita and Nihar meet each other and he finds out Ruhi and Juhi's truth. Ruchita, Ruhi and Juhi come back to the Goyal house. However, Poonam finds out that Ruhi is not Nihar and Ruchita's daughter. Poonam exposes that Ruchita only gave birth to one child, Juhi, and Ruhi is an orphan. Poonam hates Ruhi because of her dark skin color as well as her unknown lineage.
Nihar accepts Ruhi as his daughter as Ruchita had accepted her as his daughter. Nihar finally confesses his parentage to his daughters and reunites with them. Meanwhile, Disha has fallen for Nihar and does not want him to reunite with Ruchita. Ritu, worried that her relationship will be at stake if Ruchita and Nihar reunite, helps Disha. However, Nihar finally confesses Pinku's truth and Prateek and Disha's relationship to everyone. Disha murders Ritu, but puts the blame on Ruchita. Ruchita learns about Disha's involvement in Ritu's murder and exposes Disha to the family. Disha is arrested, while Ruchita and Nihar take responsibility of raising Pinku as their own.
In a twist of fate, Nihar is killed in a bomb blast, planted by a woman named Monica who posed as Prateek's girlfriend. Monica is a terrorist who intends to destroy the country, but Nihar is blamed for the blast. Ruchita, helped by her classmate and an ACP officer, Ved Vardhan, decides to investigate the blast and they learn Monica's true identity. Monica plants a bomb in Ruhi, Juhi and Pinku's school, but Ruchita saves them. Monica dies in the blast and Ruchita finally proves Nihar's innocence to everyone.
15 years later
Ruchita's daughters, Ruhi and Juhi, are now grown up as Ruchita is shown to be dead. Ruhi is the replica of Ruchita while Juhi is also a replica of Nihar. Pinku is married to a woman named Palak. Poonam still hates Ruhi and decides to get rid of Ruhi by fixing her marriage. One day, Ruhi is saved from a man’s assault by Nahar Goenka. Nahar lives with his grandmother, Sumitra; his father, Ratan; his stepmother, Soni; his half-brother, Samar; and his half-sister, Avni and his brother-in-law, Romil, Avni's husband.
Ruhi begins to fall in love with Nahar as Soni fixes Nahar’s marriage with her. Soni thinks Ruhi, despite being dark-skinned, is more suitable for Nahar and the entire family accepts this decision. However, Poonam disagrees and decides to replace Ruhi with Juhi as she thinks that Juhi is perfect as Nahar's wife. Sumitra accepts Juhi and Poonam manipulates Soni against Ruhi to stop this marriage but fails. However, on the marriage day, Poonam locks Ruhi in a room and tries to make Juhi marry Nahar. Nonetheless, Ruhi ends up marrying Nahar. However, when Sumitra learns about Ruhi and Nahar's marriage, she doesn’t accept Ruhi as her daughter-in-law and schemes to remove Ruhi from Nahar's life. Poonam is enraged from Ruhi being a rich family’s daughter-in-law, so she exposes Ruhi's truth to everyone. Goenka family finds out Ruhi is an orphan and no one knows whose blood or lineage she is carrying. Everyone eventually accepts Ruhi despite that, but Sumitra starts to hate Ruhi even more.
Sumitra creates many problems inside the family and tries to separate both Ruhi and Nahar but always fails. Agni, Nahar's fiancée, enters their life. Agni has lived in the Goenka house all this time, where she was locked in a room by the Goenka family. Several years ago, Agni jumped from a balcony and suffered brain injury and now she behaves like a child and is very aggressive. Ruhi later learns about Nahar and Agni's relationship and her accident so she decides to cure Agni and assimilate her with the outside world once again. Nahar begins to fall in love with Ruhi, but Agni gets cured and regains her memory. Agni learns about Ruhi and Nahar's marriage so she plans to separate them. Sumitra also joins hands with Agni and they create many problems between them. Agni succeeds in separating them. She mixes a medicine inside a cake on her birthday which makes her angry infront of the family and frames Ruhi for a fake case with the help of a police inspector named, Pritam Singh, who wanted to take revenge against on Ruhi and gets her arrested. Pritam helps Agni by making Ruhi escapes where she brings her into an cliff where Ruhi learns about Agni's truth as she tries to expose her Agni knocks Ruhi unconscious and she buries her and makes the entire family into believing that she committed suicide by jumping on the cliff.
Ruhi survived and returns by posing herself as a ghost by scaring Agni and gets successful. But Agni scares Sumitra to marry Nahar as Sumitra announces Agni and Nahar's marriage whom Nahar reluctantly agrees shocking Ruhi. Juhi also learns about this as she joins with Ruhi to expose Agni. After many tries, Ruhi and Juhi stops Nahar from marrying Agni as Agni confesses her crimes to everyone as Juhi had already exposed Pritam Singh's involvement. The entire family tries to call the police but Agni escapes as Sumitra's involvement is also to being exposed. Nahar finally confesses his love to Ruhi and they unite.
On the other hand, Sumitra continues plotting against them as she makes an accident in which Ruhi had suffered from an miscarriage shocking the entire family. On the other hand, Samar start falling for Juhi and gets married. But however, Juhi doesn't like Samar and wants to get out of the marriage and also, Soni doesn’t likes Juhi and doesn’t accept her. Sumitra doesn't like the relationship between both Ruhi and Juhi and manipulates Soni against both sisters as she plans to create problems in between them to break their relationship.
While, Ruhi learns about the truth behind Juhi and Samar's marriage and she asks Juhi to fall for him but Juhi refuses as Sumitra puts oil on the cliff in which Juhi accidentally throws Ruhi on the cliff but she is saved by a women named Sri Sundra but actually it is revealed Sri Sundra is actually Agni whom had posed herself as she returned back for revenge against on Ruhi as Ruhi and Nahar brings her to their home. Soni and Ratan plans to make the entire property and business under Samar's name so that he can took control over them but however they shocks to finds out that Ratan's father had made the entire property and business under Nahar's child's name as Ruhi could not being pregnant with Nahar's child. On the other hand Ruhi made Sri sundra her surrogate not knowing she is agni.
