As of 2008 there were 514 law enforcement agencies in New York State employing 66,472 police officers, some agencies employ peace / special officers (about 341 for each 100,000 residents) according to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics' Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies.[1]
