John Hambrock is the creator of the comic strip The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee. It appeared first on 12 November 2006, and is syndicated by King Features Syndicate.
Hambrock was born and grew up in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He has displayed the talent for art, at a very young age, and has received several awards for his achievements in this field [1].
Hambrock was voted the most artistic male in his senior class in High School. He then attended Indiana University. He has a degree in Graphic Design, from the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida [2].
While in college he won the Philip Morris National Marketing Competition taking the first place for college students. He received this prestigious award along with four other student members of his creative team at the headquarters of Philip Morris in New York City [3].
He was recruited by James Courtenay James, Inc., a small design agency in Chattanooga, Tennessee, soon after he finished college in 1985. But in 1986 he moved to Chicago, when the Hirsch Design Group offered him a position in their organisation as one of its three creative directors [4].
After ten years as an art director with Hirsch, he left to start his agency, In-House Communications. It specialised in industrial advertising, packaging and print design. He now has a large client list of major industrial and retail manufacturers, as well as one of the country’s leading law firms [5].
In 1986, Hambrock married Anne, a woman he had known since high school. When Hambrock Anne would become a driving force in helping him achieve success in his newly emerging cartooning career.
