Ashley Hanrahan, known online by her pseudonym zombiebeatz2000 and affectionately referred to as Hikichan or Hikikomori-chan by the anonymous community of 8chan, was a prominent figure in the early YouTube vlogging scene. Born to a mixed heritage of Japanese and Irish-Polish-American descent, Hanrahan gained recognition for her candid discussions on mental health issues.[1]
At the age of 16, Hanrahan captivated audiences with her series of video logs, which delved into the intimate details of her personal struggles with mental health, including her experiences with depression and anxiety. Through her videos, she openly discussed the challenges she faced, ranging from the effects of her medications to the impact of social isolation on her well-being.
Hanrahan's moniker, "Hikikomori-chan," stemmed from her portrayal of a lifestyle often associated with hikikomori, a term in Japanese culture referring to individuals who withdraw from social interaction and spend prolonged periods in seclusion. In her vlogs, Hanrahan frequently filmed herself in her room, engaging directly with her audience as she navigated the complexities of her own mental health journey.

The 8chan Doxxing The 8chan /b/ board began to take notice of Hanrahan in mid 2017, and not long after threads about her started popping up on the site, on December 1st, 2017, an anonymous user on the 8chan /b/ board created a thread that contained her personal information. Anonymous users would go out of their way to try and find more about her and her current whereabouts although, a few months beforehand, she had made most of her current social media private because anonymous users from /r9k/ had tried to contact her not long after she had posted to the board in July 2017.[4][5]
Spread Not long after the doxxing, anonymous users on the 8chan /b/ board, began to make tribute threads and discussion threads all about Hanrahan. Users on the board seemed to now be divided, as some were in love with her due to her cuteness and social awkwardness, while others hated her. Threads specifically about her continued over on the /r9k/ board on 4chan. Although threads specifically about Hanrahan don't get much traffic on 4chan, she is still always brought up in almost every single thread about female NEETs in general, even though the topic of can cause controversy, as some anonymous users on the board think she is a complete fake.[7] [8]
